the deal, in plain english.

the short version.

• Plus1 is a noticeboard. It does not organise, lead, check or approve any ride, route, rider or place.
• You plan your own rides and you ride entirely at your own risk. Mountain biking can seriously injure or kill you.
• It is your job to check you are allowed to ride where you ride: rights of way, landowner permission, trail-centre rules and the law. Riding a footpath, closed trail or private land without permission is on you, not us.
• Nobody on Plus1 is vetted. Meeting people from the app is your decision. Take the same care you would with any stranger.
• Your kit, your fitness, the weather, your insurance and getting help in an emergency are all yours to sort. Plus1 is not an emergency service.
• Trail reports, places, epic trails, pop-up suggestions and forecasts come from other riders, public data and the weather service. Any of it can be wrong. Check for yourself.
• You must be 18 or over to use Plus1.

you agree to this by creating an account, tapping "i agree" in the app, or using plus1 at all. if you do not agree, please don't use it.

1. who we are, and what you are agreeing to.

Plus1 is an iOS app, an Android app, a web app and the website at plus1app.uk (together, "Plus1" or "the service"). It is made and run by Moss Davis, a sole developer based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at hello@plus1app.uk.

These terms are a legally binding agreement between you and us. They are also the end user licence agreement for the apps. By creating an account, tapping "I agree", or using any part of Plus1, you confirm that you have read them, that you understand them, and that you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not use Plus1.

Our privacy policy at plus1app.uk/privacy explains what we do with your data and forms part of these terms.

2. what plus1 is, and what it is not.

Plus1 is a tool that lets riders post rides they intend to do, find rides other riders have posted, say that they are out riding, message each other, say how a trail is riding, keep track of their own bike, and colour in where they have been. That is all it is. Think of it as the noticeboard at a trail-centre café.

We are not an organiser, promoter, tour operator, guide, instructor, coach, club, event manager, or emergency service. We do not plan, lead, run, supervise, inspect, verify, vet, approve, recommend or endorse any ride, route, trail, meeting point, timing, difficulty grading, distance, description, rider or location. Every ride on Plus1 is organised by a user, for themselves, and every detail of it is that user's content, not ours.

We take on no duty of care in connection with any ride, journey, meeting or activity that is arranged, discussed or advertised through Plus1, and nothing in the service is advice of any kind. Nothing we or any user say on Plus1 should be taken as a statement that a ride, route or place is safe, legal, suitable or open.

3. who can use plus1.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract. If you are under 18 you must not use Plus1, and if we learn that you are we will close your account.

You must give accurate details, keep your login credentials secure, and not let anyone else use your account. You are responsible for everything done through your account.

4. riding is entirely your responsibility.

You alone decide whether, where, when and how to ride, and with whom. You are wholly and solely responsible for:

• assessing every ride, route, trail, meeting point, weather forecast, daylight window, ground condition and hazard for yourself, before and during the ride;
• your own fitness, health, ability, experience and judgement, and riding within them;
• the condition and maintenance of your bike and equipment, and wearing a helmet and any other protection you judge appropriate;
• carrying what you need: tools, spares, food, water, clothing, lights, first aid, navigation, and a means of calling for help;
• telling someone where you are going and when you expect to be back;
• your conduct towards other riders, walkers, horse riders, drivers, landowners, wildlife and livestock;
• obeying the law at all times, including the Highway Code, the Countryside Code, local byelaws, trail-centre and land-manager rules (for example Forestry England's), signage, and any closure or diversion;
• making sure you have the legal right to ride wherever you ride. In England and Wales that generally means public bridleways, restricted byways, byways open to all traffic, roads, and trails or land where the owner or manager permits cycling. Public footpaths, private land without permission, closed or diverted trails, protected sites, and unofficial or self-built trails are not yours to ride unless you have been given express permission. Checking this, and obtaining any permission, is your responsibility alone;
• not building, modifying or damaging trails, features, gates, fences or land, and not causing damage or nuisance to anyone's property;
• arranging your own insurance. We strongly recommend personal accident and third-party liability cover (for example through membership of British Cycling or Cycling UK). Plus1 provides no insurance of any kind;
• your own safety and the safety of anyone you bring with you or invite;
• getting help in an emergency. Plus1 is not an emergency service, is not monitored, and must not be relied on to raise an alarm. In an emergency call 999.

If a user on Plus1 rides somewhere they have no right to ride, or rides in a way that breaks the law, that is that user's responsibility, not ours. We do not check, and cannot check, where anyone rides.

5. you accept the risks.

Mountain biking and cycling are inherently dangerous. The risks include, but are not limited to: falls and collisions; terrain, obstacles, drops, roots, rocks, mud, water and man-made features; weather and visibility; mechanical failure; wildlife and livestock; the actions of other riders, other trail users and road users; getting lost; exposure; remoteness from medical help; and your own or other people's mistakes. These can result in property damage, serious injury, permanent disability or death.

By using Plus1 you confirm that you understand these risks, that you have the experience and judgement to assess them, and that you voluntarily accept all of them, whether they are listed above or not, and whether or not they are caused by the negligence of another user. You accept that we have no control over any ride and no ability to make any ride safe, and that you ride entirely at your own risk.

6. other people on plus1.

We do not vet users. We do not check anyone's identity, age, skill, experience, fitness, criminal record, insurance or intentions, and we do not verify anything in a profile, ride post, message or comment. Names and details may be false.

You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users, online and in person. Meeting someone from Plus1 is your decision. Use the same care you would with any stranger: meet in a public place, tell someone where you are going, and leave if anything feels wrong.

We are not responsible for the conduct, statements, riding, reliability or safety of any user, whether online or on a ride, and we are not responsible for anything that happens between users. If someone behaves badly, use the block and report tools in the app and tell us at hello@plus1app.uk.

7. hosting a ride.

If you post a ride, you are the host of that ride. Hosting does not make you our agent, employee, partner, contractor or representative, and we are not a party to any ride you host. You are responsible for everything you post about the ride, for the ride itself, for the people you invite, and for making sure the ride is lawful and that you have any permission it needs.

You must not use Plus1 to sell or charge for rides, guiding, coaching or events unless you hold every licence, qualification, permission and insurance the law requires for doing so. If you do, you do so entirely on your own account. You must not post rides that require or encourage riding where there is no right to ride.

We may edit, hide or remove any ride at any time and for any reason, without notice.

Pop-up rides. Plus1 may suggest a ride from a template, using the weather forecast and what is already on. A local moderator, a person, decides whether to post it; nothing is posted automatically. A pop-up is an invitation to form a group, not a ride: it becomes a ride only when one of the riders who joined agrees to host it, and from then on it is that rider's ride under this section. If nobody hosts it by 24 hours before, it closes. We do not organise, lead or supervise pop-ups any more than any other ride, and a suggestion is not a statement that the weather, the ground or the route will be safe or suitable.

8. location features ("active now", near you and been there).

If you choose to use Active now, your phone rounds your position to a grid square of roughly one square kilometre before anything is sent, and other users see only that rough area and whatever you type. While a session is running the app may keep updating that rough area in the background, with your phone in your pocket, until you end the session or it ends on its own (four hours at most). It can be inaccurate, delayed or stale, and it may fail altogether without warning.

Active now is a social feature, not a safety, tracking or locating feature. Do not rely on it to find anyone, to be found, or to raise an alarm. You choose whether to switch it on, and you are responsible for what you type alongside it.

While you are out on Active now, Plus1 may show places, trail news, trail reports and "epic" trails near your rough area. They come from other riders, from our own research and from OpenStreetMap, and a moderator checks places before they appear, but any of it can be wrong, out of date or incomplete. A listing does not mean a trail is open, safe or legal to ride, or that we recommend it. Always check you have permission and that the trail is open.

Some areas are marked "unofficial trails reported around here". We show these only as a rough area, never as a name, route or point. We do not endorse riding them. If you own or manage land and want an area removed, email hello@plus1app.uk and we will remove it.

The Been there scratch map is off until you turn it on. It keeps the rough squares you were out in while it was on. You choose whether only you see it, whether you can share a card of your totals, or whether your first name and square count appear on a leaderboard. Turning it off deletes your squares.

9. your content.

Everything you post on Plus1, including rides, ride photos, comments, messages, your name, your Active now note, trail reports, epic trails, places you suggest, your bikes and any feedback you send us, is your content. You are responsible for it, and you confirm that you have the right to post it.

You must not post anything that is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, obscene, misleading or deceptive; that infringes anyone's rights; that reveals someone else's personal information without their consent; that advertises anything without our permission; or that promotes or encourages riding without a legal right to do so, trespass, or damage to land, trails or property. A trail report, epic trail or place must be honest and about somewhere you have actually been; you must not name, mark or point to an unofficial trail, and you must not use them to advertise.

You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display, reproduce and distribute your content for the purpose of running Plus1. Feedback you send us may be used to improve Plus1 without any obligation to you. We may remove or hide any content, and suspend or close any account, at any time and at our sole discretion, without notice and without owing you anything.

10. your licence to use the apps.

We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use the Plus1 apps on devices that you own or control, and to use the web app, for your own non-commercial use in accordance with these terms and with the rules of the app store you got the app from.

You must not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, decompile or create derivative works of any part of Plus1; scrape or harvest data from it; interfere with its operation or security; or use it for anything unlawful. All rights not expressly granted are reserved to us.

11. the service is provided as it is.

Plus1 is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we make no promises and give no warranties about it, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, complete, reliable, secure, uninterrupted or error-free, or that any ride, message or notification will be delivered, delivered on time, or seen. Push notifications, reminders and messages can fail or arrive late, and you must not rely on them. Weather forecasts, trail reports and places shown in the app come from other riders, public sources and a third-party weather service; they can be wrong and you must not rely on them.

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of Plus1 at any time.

12. our liability to you.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

Subject only to the paragraph above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

• we are not liable to you for any loss, injury, illness, damage, cost or expense of any kind arising out of or in connection with any ride, journey, meeting or activity that is arranged, discussed, advertised or found through Plus1, however it arises;
• we are not liable for the acts or omissions of any user, including a user's negligence, unlawful riding, trespass, damage to land or property, or breach of these terms;
• we are not liable for your reliance on any content on Plus1, including any ride description, route, grading, meeting point, timing, location, profile or message, or for any content being inaccurate, out of date or false;
• we are not liable for any inaccuracy in, or any failure of, the Active now feature, any place, trail report, epic trail, pop-up suggestion or weather forecast, or any notification;
• we are not liable for Plus1 being unavailable, interrupted, changed or withdrawn, or for loss of data;
• we are not liable for any loss of profit, business, opportunity, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss;
• we are not liable for anything caused by events outside our reasonable control;
• our total liability to you, for everything arising out of or in connection with Plus1 and these terms taken together, is limited to £100.

These limits apply to Moss Davis personally and to anyone who helps run Plus1, and they apply whether a claim is made in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise.

13. your responsibility to us.

To the extent permitted by law, you will compensate us for, and defend us against, any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) made by any third party that arises out of or in connection with: any ride you post, host, join or take part in; your riding, including riding without a legal right to do so, trespass or damage; your content; your dealings with other users; or your breach of these terms or of the law.

14. suspending or ending your account.

You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings, and then these terms stop applying to you, except for the parts that by their nature continue (including sections 4, 5, 12, 13 and 17).

We may suspend or close your account, and remove any of your content, at any time and for any reason, including if we believe you have broken these terms, the law, or the spirit of Plus1. We do not have to give notice or reasons.

15. changes to these terms.

We may change these terms from time to time. When we make a material change, the app will ask you to read and accept the new version before you carry on using it, and the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Using Plus1 after a change means you accept the changed terms.

16. apple app store and google play.

If you got Plus1 from Apple's App Store, the following also applies. These terms are between you and us only, not Apple, and we alone are responsible for the app and its content. Your licence is limited to use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store's usage rules, and may be shared through Family Sharing where available. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app. We alone are responsible for any product warranty; the app is free, so if it fails to conform to any warranty you may notify Apple, but no purchase price is refundable, and to the fullest extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar law. We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated by the US Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

If you got Plus1 from Google Play, Google's terms of service and the Google Play terms also apply to your use of the app, and these terms are between you and us only, not Google.

17. general.

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Plus1. If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part will be applied to the maximum extent permitted and the rest of the terms will continue in full force. If we do not enforce a right, that is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours to anyone who takes over Plus1. Apart from Apple as described in section 16, no one other than you and us has any right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce these terms.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings there.

18. promotions and rewards.

From time to time we may offer a reward for using Plus1 in a particular way, for example a piece of kit for hosting a number of rides. Each reward has its own rules, shown in the app and on this page, and these terms apply to it as well.

Unless a reward's own rules say otherwise: it is open to riders aged 18 or over with a UK postal address; one reward per rider per promotion; a ride only counts towards a reward once it has taken place and at least one other rider joined it through the app; rides removed by a moderator, rides that did not happen, and anything we reasonably believe was staged or created to game the reward do not count; rewards are subject to availability and have no cash alternative; we may substitute an item of similar value; and we may withdraw or change a promotion at any time, without affecting rewards already earned. Postage to UK addresses is on us. Delivery times are outside our control.

Current promotion: host five rides that other riders join and claim a digital tyre inflator. Counts rides created on or after 12 September 2026. Each ride only counts if, after it has taken place, you post a group photo to its completed ride card in the app and share that card. Rides without a photo and a share do not count. Every claim is checked by a moderator before anything is sent, and a claim that relies on rides that do not meet these rules will be refused.
